Saturday morning in the city
This morning after sleeping in...(sooo nice to do that). I got up, put some simi-clean, simi-wrinkled clothing on, got on my bike and rode down to the local diner type place. I had a great breakfast of grits, potatoes, and pancakes and about 4 cups of coffee. I sat and read and took in the local scene. It was an interesting place. There are only about 15-20 tables and the people in there were...um... different from one another. There was the yuppie suburb family sitting and complaining about something. Next to them were the tattooed, pierced, and dyed couple. There was an old couple. A few other single diners like me... it was nice. I sat and read and was given lots and lots of coffee by a friendly waitress.
Next door to the restaurant is a used bookstore that I really like. It is and OLD building and they have some good books. The couple that own it are always in there with their baby. While I was in there they had a bob dylan special playing on public radio. That place just has cool vibe.
When I went back to get my bike there was this guy sitting there. I think he may have been homeless but I am not totally sure. He asked for some change and I gave him what I had but it was cool because we started talking. We talked about the hurricane and New Orleans and such. It was just a cool moment of connection where there is this old black guys and my this 26 year old white girl...
So, for no real reason I decided to recap my morning. It was just kind of a nice realization of the neighborhood that I live in now. It is funny how living in a place that is not totally "safe" can lead to living in a really cool community as compared living in the "safe" suburb where everyone is locked inside their own houses.
Alright... I need to clean up the hairballs that are floating around our house.
