Mass at Lunchtime
Today I brought my lunch to work so I did not go home to eat. Instead I ate my food in about 4 1/2 minutes and then went for a walk. There is an old Catholic church right down the street that I decided to check out. When I got there I realized that there would be a mass in about 3 minutes... so I quietly went in the back and slammed the door behind me... I placed my pear into the trash can and it hit the bottom with a loud bang... so, of course, I sat down like it was someone else making all the noise.
The priest walked in and the service started. It was a nice change in the middle of the day but I had a really hard time connecting. I like liturgical services for their reverence however I could not seem to connect with that element of God either.
Maybe it was just me. Most likely it was just me. God was there.
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." (Mt.18:20)
It is funny how the direct result of our humanness is a separation from God. By that I mean that we are distracted by different word usage, different body movement, and different styles of God that sometimes we are unable to see that God is in the mist of something different that our own norm.
